Hi, I'm Max. I'm a very special dog who just got a new home. I decided to start blogging to share my life as a three-legged dog and maybe meet some other tripods out there.
A little about me:
I'm a 7 year old German Shepherd/Shiba Inu mix, but my new mom says I act like a 2-year-old. She adopted me last week from the Animal Welfare League. She had seen my picture on www.petfinder.com and couldn't resist. The description for me said "Max is good boy" and mom soon found out that I really am. Anyway, the next day my mom and her roommate drove up to the shelter as soon as it opened and met me. When they first walked up another lady was looking at me and my new mom's heart sank. She just knew that someone else was going to get me. But then, as if by fate, the other lady walked away and my new mom came up and introduced herself. My mom and her roommate spent some time with me and then brought in my new sister, Happy, to meet me. We got along well, even better than Mom had expected, so home I went!
The shelter told my mom that my old dad had taken me to the shelter because he was elderly and had to move in with his kids and couldn't take me with him. I had a good home there. Mom says she can tell because I act so spoiled. Since my dad couldn't keep me, he took me to the shelter where I lived for 26 days. The shelter was okay, I mean, they fed me and were nice, but it wasn't the same as being home. I lost some weight while I was there. When mom brought me home I was only 26 pounds. Now that I'm settled into my new home I've already gained four pounds!
I like my new home. I have two people who love me and a sister who likes to tease me by walking by with a bone in her mouth. We like to have barking matches. I also get lots of playdates with other dogs, which is cool. Yesterday I got to play with Happy, Coal, and Amos. We had a bast!
My third day home alone I decided to eat the door. I was trying to get to my sister and decided that the best way was to eat my way through. Mom got me a crate after that and I'm much happier. I like the coziness of it and it's the one place that's just mine.
Mom says I'm really smart. Right now I'm learning "sit." I'm learning really fast. I'm pretty laid back and Mom says we might start doing pet therapy once I learn some basic obedience. I love to meet new people and am just in heaven when a large group of kids wants to come pet me. I'm quite charming and people are just drawn to me. Everybody wants to pet me and that's fine by me. It feels sooo good.
Now, on to my uniqueness. In actuality, my three-leggedness isn't all that unique. Lots of dogs lose a leg to cancer or accidents. I lost mine from a car accident when I was younger. I'm missing my front left leg. I still have my shoulder and a bit of humerus, which I like to wiggle around. I do it just to be cute. My mom had made me some awesome bandanas. My favorite says "Dude, where's my leg?" I also have "My vet charges an arm and a leg (I'm on a payment plan)" and "One foot in the grave." Hehe. I love to wear them and don't fuss a bit.
Well, that's all for now. I'm ready to go for a walk! Thanks for reading!
